379 June Walks from Keswick

Our next walks venue will be

Keswick

A walkers Paradise in the Northern Lakes
on

Saturday 10th June 2017
0800hrs prompt from the Short Stay Car Park

Keswick and the North Lakes are well known for their scenic landscape and opportunities for a wide range of outdoor activities. With great attractions and activities, there are plenty of things to do in Keswick

For Non-Walkers and after walk activities, there is a good choice of attractions, visitor centres and parks just waiting to be explored with something for every taste and age group.

There will be Three Walk Groups as normal;
  • A Group: led by Garth Raybould
  • B Group: led by Jennifer Mathias
  • C Group: Led by Shirley Fairnie

With the warmer weather it is important for you to bring enough water to drink (recommended 2ltrs). Dehydration creeps up on you and can make you ill and a risk to the rest of the group.

Route Map anticlockwise
Latrigg our destination for today
We are leaving Keswick in a North Easterly direction to go passed Fitz Park across the
A66 on the Cumbria Way. Then we are going to climb to the top of Latrigg 1,203ft, our
ascent is 950ft. Wainwright says ʻLatrigg is to Keswick what Loughrigg is to Ambleside
and Helm Crag to Grasmere: a small hill, an excellent viewpoint, a great favourite with
local folk and visitors.ʼ It is a steady climb with a few short steeper sections but there are
many photo opportunities on the way and panoramic views at the top. Well worth the walk
uphill!

Over the top we start downwards to a path that goes NNW, through a car park for those of
to Skiddaw, then continuing back down the path we climbed we take a path across the
fields towards Ormanthwaite and so pick up the Allerdale Ramble back into Keswick.
We will have plenty of time to make a leisurely ascent, then a ramble with time also to

explore Keswick.

Theese stones mean something?

Catbells and Maidenmoor and High Spy over Derwentwater

'C' Walk from Keswick

Walk Leader: Shirley Fairnie
Total Distance: 5.5 miles
Total Ascent/Descent: 750ft

There are no stiles on this walk - but - there is quite a bit of 'up'!  After coffee we start off with a little flat road walking, then we turn off the road and head up to Castlehead viewpoint. Down from Castlehead another short section of road before the quite long, but gradual, ascent ( with as many stops as you like! ) until we reach the Great Wood. What goes up must come down, so we descend through the wood to the lakeside where we will have a late lunch.  From here we return to Keswick more or less by the side of the lake.
