A Walk from Llanberis 2016

Walk Leader: Garth Raybould
Total Distance: 10 miles
Total Ascent: 3,100ft

Distance: 17 km (10 miles)
Ascent: 950 m (3,100 ft)

This walk follows one of the lesser known ridges of western Snowdonia, by means of a mostly anticlockwise circuit to the south of Llanberis.  The route takes in Moel Eilio, Foel Goch and Moel Cynghorion, finishing with part of the Snowdon Ranger Path to Bwlch Maesgwm and a gentle descent back to Llanberis.  (Should weather or other factors require, the walk can be shortened to about 8 miles with 900 ft less climbing.)  Given good weather there should be fine views of the Snowdon massif to the west, with Llyn Cwellyn and the Nantlle ridge to the south.

B Walk from Llanberis 2016

Walk Leader: Gwyn Jones
Total Distance: 6.75 Miles
Total Ascent: 1500 ft

B Route Clockwise direction (click to enlarge)

This walk is in four stages. The first 2 ½ miles are mostly in woodland. The next 1 ½ miles in open moorland followed by 1 mile on level road where we have wide views across to Snowdon. For the final stretch we visit the old mine workings which are quite spectacular. Here we see the old mill where the cutting and splitting was done. Also a man-made viewpoint from which we have good views of the old workings.

The terrain is undulating but all the “ups” are fairly short and not too steep. The final descent from the mine workings is fairly steep - here we descend (slowly) approx. 600 ft alongside the old wagon tracks and winding gear. The total distance for the walk is under 7 miles so we will have plenty of time for stops for a breather. A number of kissing gates but no stiles.
