Clapham

in the Yorkshire Dales
on

Saturday 14th April 2018

0800hrs prompt from the Short Stay Car Park
Stream through the village

Clapham is quite simply one of the prettiest villages you could care to imagine. It truly is like something out of a postcard.
Through the centre of the villages runs Clapham Beck, which is crossed by a series of old stone bridges. The slate-roofed houses around it are built from the same or similar stone, with most of them dating back to the 18th century..........more

Tourists keep returning to Clapham,.........more

At Clapdale we drop down to walk alongside the beck again and past the entrance to the Ingleborough Cave.

At Trow Gill we cross the beck to reach Long Lane and we head towards Long Scar with hopefull some wonderful views.

We head towards Sulber Gate and Thieves Moss, one of the finest Limestone Pavements

Time to head downhill towards Crummock Dale via Beggars Stile with some lovely gentle walking until we reach Norber Brow when we are on Crummock Lane, eventually reaching Thwaite Lane which takes us back towards Clapham.

C Walk from Clapham 2018

Walk Leader:Gwyn Jones/John Adamson
Walk Distance: 5 miles app
Total Ascent/Descent: 500ft app

The C Walk starts with a coffee and tea cake in a local tea shop in Clapham.  We leave the village of Clapham and walk east along a path, across fields, through kissing gates and on towards Austwick. We pass through the quiet little village of Austwick and then north and up to the erratics, - a geological term for a large rock that is out of place, as depicted by their composition.  We head west; pass under Robin Proctor’s Scar and back to Clapham in time for a well-deserved drink.
