This walk is in four stages. The first 2 ½ miles are mostly in woodland. The next 1 ½ miles in open moorland followed by 1 mile on level road where we have wide views across to Snowdon. For the final stretch we visit the old mine workings which are quite spectacular. Here we see the old mill where the cutting and splitting was done. Also a man-made viewpoint from which we have good views of the old workings.
The terrain is undulating but all the “ups” are fairly short and not too steep. The final descent from the mine workings is fairly steep - here we descend (slowly) approx. 600 ft alongside the old wagon tracks and winding gear. The total distance for the walk is under 7 miles so we will have plenty of time for stops for a breather. A number of kissing gates but no stiles.
