April Walk to Kendal - Details

The Walks this month commence from the Information Centre in the centre of Kendal.
Due to the part pedestrianisation of the shopping centre and change in traffic flow,
the coach will not be able to stop except to drop us off so BOOTS MUST BE WORN BEFORE leaving the bus

The bus will be parked at the Leasure Centre, 1 mile from town, so do take this into consideration at the end of the day.

Neither walk is very long or ardious so there should be plenty of time. Enjoy yourselves.

Weather forecast for Kendal.

B Party:
Leader: John Hanney
Distance: 6.5 miles
Height Gain: 584 ft

Leaving Kendal we travel north east behind the shopping centre to walk around the golf course steadly climbing towards Cunswick Scar, passing over the A591 (footbridge, you do not need wings). The walk is along Cunswick Scar, above Parkspring Wood then a short climb to Scout Scar. There is a distinctive mushroom shape shelter and observation point, which often doubles as a lunch spot.
The walk continues towards Barrowfield, where we turn off to head back towards Kendal.

C Party
Leader: John Smith
Distance: 5.6 miles
Height Gain?loss: 50 ft

This riverside walk of five and a half miles tracks the river Kent downstream to Hawes Bridge and back to Kendal again. It is level with some 10 stiles and 100 yards of gentle uphill after Hawes Bridge.
The way could be muddy after wet weather. Lunch wi11 be taken under an old canal bridge where there is limited shelter from any rain. the start will be in the centre of Kendal after coffee/tea which has been pre-booked at the Artisan cafe some 100 yards from the coach drop off point. There will be a standard charge of £3 for coffee/tea and a scone. Please indicate you wish to take this option by clearly marking a "c" against your name(s) so that I can know from whom to collect the money as there is to be only one bill. Should you wish another option at the cafe, you will need to opt for normal sevice in the body of the cafe and pay your bill, as a room has been set aside for the deal. The toilets are on the floor below.
The walk will finish at the Leisure Centre about 15/20 minutes walk out of~the centre of Kendal because that is the only coach park in the town.
If you wish to walk on into the centre of town to browse/shop, you will need to allow sufficient time to walk back to the coach before departure.
