A Walk from Castleton 2019

Walk Leader: Brian Thorne
Total Distance: 10 mls app
Total Ascent/Descent: 1775ft ap

A wonderful circular walk, taking in a spectacular limestone dale, high pastures and one of the classic Peak District edges.

Leaving Castleton, we climb up through Cavedale on the “Limestone Way,” and through the high pastures around Rowter Farm. Further climbing takes us to the summit of Mam Tor at 1696 ft. Dodging the D of E parties, we work our way down to Hollins Cross and then up to Back Tor with spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. A final climb then leads to the end of the ridge at Lose Hill before our descent to the village of Hope and a return to Castleton along scenic field paths.
