This walk is different to that shown originally, as having done the recce I found there were too many steep bits. This one has a few slopes but nothing too difficult. We start along the canal and turn off after just over a mile towards Valle Crucis Abbey – a 12th century monastary now mostly in ruins. We then descend to cross a footbridge heading towards the very small hamlet of Hendry. From here we cross some fields (muddy at the time of recce) to a lane which takes us to Llantisilio church. We go through the litch gate and head down to join the river at Horseshoefalls. We then follow the canal back to Llangollen (1.8 miles).

The walk
along the canal is level but then there are some gradual ascents.
