Distance: 5.5 miles
Happy New
Year to you all. My planned route turned
out to be rubbish so we shall be walking a ‘mini variation-on-a-theme’ of last
year’s walk, but I think even nicer. We
set out West from the Gilpin along a cycle track and then along the base of
Whitbarrow Ridge for 20 mins before climbing gradually up to the western edge
of the scar. From here, given good
weather, you will have brilliant photo-shoot opportunities of the mountains to
the north, Arnside and Morecombe Bay to the south and Whernside and
Ingleborough to the east; a great start to 2020.
From this
vantage point, we traverse along the southern tip of the scar to eventually
retrace our steps back down to the pub.
Surprisingly, at 5½ miles, we should be ready to change
into our party togs within 2½ hours of departure.
